RedSky Founder – Alan MacNaughton P.Eng.
Alan brings over two decades of deep industry experience in power system operations, regulatory compliance, and grid reliability. His career has spanned critical roles across major utilities and system operators in Eastern Canada, including Nova Scotia Power, the New Brunswick System Operator (NBSO), and New Brunswick Power.
With expertise in system modeling, load flow analysis, and dynamic stability assessments, supporting long-term transmission planning and operational decision-making. His work played a key role in enhancing grid reliability and integrating new generation resources across provincial and interprovincial networks.
As Senior Compliance Engineer, Alan oversaw corporate adherence to NERC and NPCC Reliability Standards. He led audit preparation efforts, developed internal compliance programs, and fostered a culture of operational excellence and accountability across utility departments.
Overseeing real-time operations, outage coordination, and system reliability across the province of New Brunswick as the Director of the Energy Control Centre, Alan demonstrated his ability to lead high-performing operational teams under pressure. His leadership was highlighted during grid events and emergency conditions.
As the Executive Director of System Operations for New Brunswick Power, Alan provided oversight to system operations, market coordination, and compliance functions. In this role, he led modernization initiatives including control room technology upgrades, operational procedure enhancements, and strategic planning to align with evolving industry standards and system demands.
In addition to his utility leadership roles, he served on the Board of Directors for the Northeast Power Coordinating Council (NPCC) and the Eastern Interconnection Data Sharing Network (EIDSN), contributing to regional policy development, cross-border reliability coordination, and industry-wide information sharing frameworks.
With the founding of RedSky, Alan now leverages his broad expertise to support utilities, regulators, and grid operators in system planning, compliance, operations training, and technology integration by providing innovative, reliable, and standards-driven solutions for a resilient energy future.
